The Care Network is built by Mindful Living, and its first network is held — by design — for the people of Catawba County. It exists to do one thing well: help a community see itself, and help the people who carry it take their next best step.

Mindful Living works on the unglamorous architecture of community renewal — cooperative ownership models, place-based ecosystems, and the tools that let a rural economy rebuild itself instead of waiting to be rescued. The Catawba network is that work made tangible: the first living expression of a method we intend to hand to many places.
We started here because Catawba County is a place that knows both halves of the story — it lost an industrial base, and it never stopped catching its own. The mutual aid here is decades deep and mostly church-built. We're not importing a solution; we're connecting what's already alive.
The commons can't be sold out from under the people who build it.
Most tools that touch a community extract from it — they harvest the data, rent the attention, and answer to someone far away. We built the opposite on purpose. The Care Network is structured so the relationship graph at its heart is never for sale, the help stays free for anyone in need, and the people who serve and steward the place are the ones who own the tool.
It's also honest about itself: a muse, not an oracle. It shows what's actually here, names plainly what it can't see, and leaves every decision to you. Support from members who get real value keeps the help free for everyone else — capacity funds need.
What holds here is built to travel.
What we're building isn't a Catawba app — it's a pattern other communities can stand up as their own. Each one owns its network; together they form a federation that shares what works without anyone losing their sovereignty. If it holds here — in a county that lost its base and kept its heart — it can hold anywhere that decides no one should fall through.
